As a seasoned homeschool mother and a certified teacher, I was consistently eager to discover methods to keep my children and students engaged and motivated in their learning. During my master's degree program, I concentrated on learning styles and special education, swiftly recognizing the significance and worth of understanding how your child interacts with the world and absorbs information.
Years later, I proudly became the owner of Solimar Academy, an online private school designed for homeschooling families. As an umbrella school, we maintain records and guide students through their studies, starting with an online assessment and then crafting a personalized learning plan tailored to each student's personality and learning style. What I love most about our program is the one-on-one support we provide to parents. Our students and parents learn in various ways, and at Solimar, our goal is to match the right curriculum to each student to help them thrive, while also coaching parents through their challenges, bringing peace to the entire family.
I am a speaker and personal coach, working with parents and co-ops to create new norms for students with unique learning styles. A mom once told me, “Miss Dawn, if you were my teacher, I would be a rocket scientist instead of being placed in special education.” Such comments have reshaped my vision for homeschooling, benefiting not just the children but the entire family.
In my experience working with families, I've realized how daunting this journey can seem and how frequently parents feel alone and unsupported. At Solimar, we aim to transform that experience. Our mission is to cultivate children's emotional intelligence to ignite a true passion for learning, while also ensuring parents feel connected to a caring community.
